Rikshi was our much loved Cat, he died very unexpectedly late last night. The vet fought for 3 hours to save him but he was in shock and went into renal failure.
The vet thinks he may have been poisoned by Anti Freeze. She said it was very sweet and cats like the taste and lick it.
7am 9th January Rikishi came home he could hardly stand up, he fell head first into his bed. He stayed in his bed all day I tried to warm him up by putting him next to a radiator and covering him with a huge blanket. When my son came home from school we tried to get him to take water but he couldn't swallow and had become very unresponsive. When my husband came home from work we took Rikishi to the emergency vet. She said he as very very sick. She put him on a drip and tried to raise his body temp. Nothing was working and his blood pressure just kept dropping. The vet worked on him for 3 hours. She did a blood test to check the function of his kidneys and told us he had gone into renal failure and could not be saved. Rikishi died in my arms 15 minutes later. We took him home and buried him this afternoon in the back garden. We will really miss him he was a funny cat always jumping out on you from behind bushes..
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

~ Lend Me A Kitten ~
I will lend to you for a while
a kitten, God said.
For you to love while she lives,
and mourn when she's dead.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years,
or maybe two or three
But will you, 'till I call her back,
take care of her for me?
She'll bring her charms to gladden you
and should her stay be brief,
you'll always have her memories
as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay,
since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught below
I want this kitten to learn.
I've looked the whole world over
in search of teachers true,
And from the folk that crowds life's land

For all the joys this kitten brings,
the risk of grief I'll run.
I'll shelter her with tenderness,

But should you call her back
much sooner than I planned,
I'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
and try to understand.
If by my love I've managed
your wishes to achieve,
in memory of her sweet sweet love,
please help me while I grieve.
When my cherished kitten
departs this world of strife,
Please send yet another needing soul
for me to love all her life.
